Facebook’s global marketing……..really?
It was just announced that Facebook has pointed Rebecca Van Dyke as global marketer at the company. She was the vp of global marketing at Levis and Apple (she worked in the “go forth” campaign and the iPhone and ‘i’s campaign respectively). As Facebook goes public she is probably there to enforce their presence among the population and grow their market share globally- but Facebook really?
Facebook is the most popular social network in the world and personally I do not think that it will change any time soon. Other social networking sites have popped up in the past year….namely Google + who boast a high membership after it was release. Twitter has also expanded marketing usage to include the same “pages” concept which will eventually be released and more than likely only avaiable for verified accounts; also Google + has expanded their marketing experience to include the same “pages” for business accounts. Since it’s conception I have not revisted my Google + account.
Facebook has a stronger hold on the mass population so global marketing a product that is already used by most of the world is a little bit preaching to the choir if you ask me. However in marketing you are always on guard as it relates to competition. Even though Google+ and Twittter are not as strong as Facebook they have the ability to move up in marketshare especially with the inception of the new applications for marketers and business (I believe Foursquare is jumping on that bandwagon).
Another reason why they exploring this post is the constant changes to the profile. Facebook is constantly reinventing itself and improving the user experience so it is no guess that changes will have to come with the responsibility of communicating the change to the global population in a more friendly way. Plus with all the added extras that they are releasing (business cards that reflect timeline) Facebook has a lot to communicate to the public.
Now thinking about it, it makes sense. Going public and new functions and extras justify the call but bring on such a big player for the effort. Play on Facebook……imma keep on posting!
Kindle wishes and iPad 2 dreams
Yesterday I received my iPad 2 from a friend with compliments of my darling mother. After reading many articles about and in the middle of completing the Steve Jobs book this is HUGE for me. Especially since I am currently reading about the development of the iPad (big ups to Jonny Ive on the sleekness of the design).
Now that i have received it I feel so certain of my future. It might sound crazy but for me owning an Apple product cements my future in graphic design (waiting for the Adobe Photoshop Touch on iPad) and marketing. It makes me think that I can move forward. While taking that deep breath and diving into the deep end, I can get to the top and keep swimming.
THANKS MOM
DIARY OF THE MOST TIMES LATE, KIND OF ON TIME AND RARELY EARLY
I just read a post from CBS Money Watch about Being On Time, Every Time. I figured that this will assist with my mostly late, kind of on time and RARELY early issue when it comes to work and personal appointments. People, it is serious. I refuse to be early for anything. I honestly think it stems from genetics and impatience.
My father is always late or barely on time. I started telling him that I needed to be there an hour earlier so that I can be there on time. Seeing that I was around him most as a child I picked up that habit of being on time or late. Now to continue along the lines of impatience. I hate to wait. I think it is a huge waste of time to go somewhere and have to wait to get through especially if I set an appointment. Therefore, after being burned twice, the third time I arrive late.
So what does that have to do with anything? Well, in the article it highlights what you can do if you just hate waiting and if it is just embedded to be late. The tips are good and well but here is what I do.
- I set the clock ahead about 10 mins. Therefore, I wake up, leave and start my tasks 10 mins before thet start.
- Lateness is sometimes the product of the down time I may have between tasks or appointments, so I make lists. I literally list everything. Listing helps me to not forget about anything that I need to do and the time I have to do it. The fear of leaving out one minor task gives me anxiety.
- Reminders for everything important in my life.
Check out the tips. They may be benefical to you.

1. Abuse your sick days. Yes, you have an allotment of sick days at your disposal, but if you read HR’s fine print, you’ll see that they’re not just some sort of wildcard vacation days. If you always use every vacation day to which you’re entitled every year, or have a habit of calling in sick on Mondays, you are flagging yourself as someone who lacks personal integrity and abuses the system.
SO MANY PEOPLE AT MY WORK PLACE DOES THIS!!! LOL
REALLY REALLY SHORT STORY DISAPPOINTMENT
Recently I entered a short story competition for a $20,000 gift certificate at a local book store (that I love!!!). You had to write a story in 24 words. Unfortunately I didnt wing. Here is my entry:
That first day of summer Marggie held the quilt when she found out she had cancer. Ten years later she holds it tight….living
I’ve decided to make it into a short story with all the excitement inbetween saying what happen and all that drawn out stuff thats not really necessary because this entry stands awesome by itself.
What do you think?
On Lordy I love marketing. This is an interesting concept.
